About the Richer Road
I didn’t choose this road. It chose me.
I grew up in Hawaii, surrounded by the kind of beauty most people only dream of visiting for a week. Living in paradise shapes how you see the world. It teaches you that life is meant to be lived fully, not just endured between Monday morning commutes and paychecks that disappear before the next one arrives.
My dad, Richard, understood this in his bones. He was an entrepreneur at heart—always moving, always building. Law, nightclubs, auto repair, real estate, Airbnb, even Tai Chi. He tried it all, not because he was chasing money, but because he was chasing freedom. He never wanted a boss, and he refused to trade his time for someone else’s dream.
He always wanted that for me, too. I watched him my whole life, admiring his spirit even when I questioned his methods. But while my siblings found their entrepreneurial paths early on, I took the scenic route. I got degrees in finance and engineering, went into construction management, and bounced from job to job, always searching for something that felt right.
Then, life stopped being scenic.
Getting laid off once is a wake-up call. Getting laid off twice is a message you can’t ignore. Suddenly, I found myself doing DoorDash and UberEats runs, taking on side jobs and borrowing money from family for nothing more than a promise, just to keep the lights on. “Humbling” doesn’t even begin to cover it. But somewhere in those quiet moments in the car between deliveries, my mindset shifted. I stopped asking, “How do I find another job?” and started asking, “How do I build something that can never be taken from me?”
That’s when everything changed. I realized that with today’s AI tools, someone like me—without a massive budget, a team, or a tech background—could actually build something real. The leverage that used to require an entire company was suddenly available to one determined person with a laptop and a clear reason to keep going.
I thought about my dad. I thought about his name. And I finally found a way to honor him.
That is how The Richer Road was born. I built this platform because I wanted to document a real journey to financial freedom. This isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme, and it’s not written by someone who already has it all figured out. It’s researched thoroughly and shared openly with anyone willing to walk the road alongside us.
To help guide us, I created “Rich”—a character named in honor of my dad, representing everything he stood for: the entrepreneurial spirit, the pursuit of freedom, and the belief that you don’t have to wait for permission to build a better life. Through Rich, we share real financial expertise and the experiences of people who have genuinely walked this path. We aren’t talking down to you from a penthouse; we’re right here in the thick of it, figuring it out together.
Here, you’ll find content on building wealth from wherever you’re starting—investing, saving, and getting your money working for you instead of the other way around. We have honest conversations about making money on your own terms and building income streams that don’t disappear when a boss decides you’re no longer needed. We also cover the lifestyle side of things, because financial freedom isn’t just about the numbers. It’s about what those numbers make possible.
As you get started, there are two main paths you’ll want to follow: Rich on a Budget (proving you don’t have to be wealthy to live well) and Living Richer (a look at what financial freedom actually looks like when you get there).
You’re probably a lot like me. You’ve worked hard, played by the rules, and done the right things. And yet, something still feels off—like you’re spending your best years building someone else’s dream. Maybe you’ve had setbacks. Maybe your path has been longer and stranger than you expected, and you’ve had to do things you never thought you’d do just to stay afloat.
The Richer Road is for you. It’s for everyone who refuses to believe that a layoff, a late start, or a wrong turn means the dream is over. It’s for everyone who watched someone they loved chase freedom their whole life and thought, “Maybe it’s finally my turn.”
Dad—this one’s for you.
Welcome to The Richer Road. Let’s build something.
